The first 1-2 years we at NMSP weren’t doing any active sales. At that point, we wanted to give every project the attention and time it deserved. Learning and gaining experience was way more important to us than doing a whole lot of projects at the same time. Our focus was to become the best at what we do, not necessarily the biggest. We didn’t foresee the problem that was waiting for us.
At the beginning of 2020, it was time to expand the business and show the world what we, as a company and team, are capable of doing. We had to start our sales process from scratch. We were so focused on becoming the best at what we do, that we had forgotten to market ourselves…
Without a good marketing strategy, you’re not going to sell a whole lot. As we explained in MDW’s case.
Now, we can’t be happier with the pace our company is growing at. We are building valuable relationships, are doing valuable work & are helping many to reach their online goals.
We decided to start a podcast; The Social School. A podcast in which our Creative Director (Senna Kost) and Director of Operations (Oscar Mooy) share their knowledge with other experts within different industries. If you like listening to inspiring personal stories, tips & tricks, and the latest trends, then it’s definitely worth listening. (The podcast is in Dutch).
If you don’t like to do sales by going out in the field to get new clients, then sharing your knowledge on social media is something you should definitely consider. If you are not chasing clients and nobody is chasing you, you have a problem. Since we didn’t like to do hard sales and would rather share our knowledge for free, we took the route of doing a podcast.
Doing this has given us the chance to position ourselves as experts, create credibility, and gain a lot of brand awareness by distributing the most valuable content across social media. Moreover, it helped us build valuable relationships with clients and other experts within the industry.
We once read: your network = your net worth. Well, we have found that if there’s one way to build your network, it is by being valuable to other people. People will literally come to you instead of having to chase people!
NOTE: Podcasts are getting more and more popular by the day. It’s a matter of time before almost every (smart) business/business owner has its own podcast. BUT with the right strategy, you can dominate your market even if you have the feeling that you are fashionably late to the party.
A podcast is cost-time efficient. With one podcast episode, you can have valuable content for weeks!
Having a podcast can become a new revenue stream on its own. For example Sponsorships, e-books, etc.
Since we have experience in what works and what doesn’t work on social media (content & marketing-wise) you’ll have a better chance at making good decisions, which means spending less money on trial and error + more likely to get better results quickly.
